I’m a lucky man, I have two that I consider Daddy’s Little Girls. Only one of them isn’t so little anymore and the other one is growing up way too fast. At last week’s shoot my little one showed interest in assisting me, so she did for a few shots before the call of Littlest Pet Shop grew too strong. Tonight she assisted me again as I tried out some Strobist techniques using a sb-26 and a sb-600. After a while the call to be in the picture grew to strong and I was oh so willing. The “monster” picture needed some photoshop but the rest are essentially as they came out of the camera. I truly enjoy these moments, as I get to spend time with my favorite girl, I get to share my passion for photography, and I get to learn something in the process. Whether these images are any good doesn’t matter because they encapsulate those three ingredients, making them the best images ever.

Grandpa Stanley was a pretty cool guy: fought in WWII and the best stories from that experience was: he was shot down twice, was smuggled to safety behind enemy lines, and the parachute that saved his life was made into the wedding dress my Grandmother wore and the family christening gown. He was a highly intelligent man. He passed away the day my daughter was born 2 years ago in June. He’s the reason I like to shoot pinup style (his pinup survived each time he was shot down). I think about him every time I have a photoshoot.

Grandpa Moore was a blue-collar worker, told it like it was, and also a good man. He too was intelligent but in a common-sense, street-smart way. I think every day was a fight for him in one way or another and I truly believe that he did his best with what he had. He passed away this February. I got a little bit of $$$ as an inheritance. It isn’t much, but it may be enough to buy a newer model camera. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to do it, but I like the idea that as I take pictures, one of my favorite hobbies, that I will be thinking of two of my favorite people with each press of the shutter. I never in a million years thought that they would somehow be connected to something that I take such pleasure in and that is so personal. it’s funny how life is. . .

I am a proud papa of 3: a 15 year old girl, a 14 year old boy and a 14 month old girl. The teens are my wife’s from a previous marriage (and mine from this marriage) I enjoy being their dad, but they make it pretty clear that they do not view me that way. They have a dad, I’m the guy their mom decided to marry. I still treat them and consider them my own and am always looking for a little of my influence in their actions and mannerisms. I’ve know them for 7 years now and though it’s been hard, I really appreciate them.

With the Pea-pod, I get knocked out daily. Not because she is mine by blood, but because I didn’t get to experience these moments with the other two. The other day I was being goofy, doing stupid jumps into the pool. Every time I surfaced, there was Baby Girl, clapping for me, the ray of sunshine that is her smile warming me. I’ve never had this situation where someone in my life looks up to me unconditionally. I am her hero just because I am her daddy. It’s overwhelming and a bit intimidating. I’ve never had any trouble being Me–for good and bad–but Jo-Jo makes me want to be Me, but BETTER. It’s inspiring I guess. I just realized that what I see in her eyes is how I feel about her: I am awed, I adore her, I could watch her for hours without blinking, I look forward to the next adventure, the next milestone, the next word that comes out of her mouth.
Being a parent is awesome…
