First Shoot!
Aug 22nd, 2003 by cj
I’m not going to lie, I was pretty nervous. I was heading to Buffalo to visit family and thought I would see if there was anybody interested in shooting as I would have some free time. I posted a casting call through One Model Place and Rachael was the only one who responded. I don’t blame everyone else, all I have are some pictures of my wife and kids and some local scenery (which is all there is here in West Virginia!). The drive from West Virginia to Buffalo is about 6 1/2 hours so I used that time to go over the shoot, trying to come up with some unique places to shoot. I’ve been to Delaware Park dozens of times since I went to Buff State oh so many years ago. I knew the park would have a lot of character to add to Rachael’s beauty. I wasn’t wrong!
I managed to catch the Golden Hour and it matched her skin tone perfectly. I was disappointed with some of the pictures at the fountain because my flash wasn’t strong enough to fill in the sun’s backlight. I’ll have to work on that.
The main lesson I learned was when she asked me how she would know I would send her the pictures I promised? I didn’t have a good answer for that. I know I’m honest, but how did she, considering I lived in West Virginia? I made the mistake of giving her the negatives (I shot digital and film), which I will never do again. Live and learn, I guess!
